[INTRO]

Finally! After a helluva messed up two weeks, we’re FINALLY back with a new show. Here’s Whitesnake to kick us off with “Bad Boys,” a deep cut from the 1987 album.

—————————————-
Whitesnake – Bad Boys
—————————————-

Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host, Pariah Burke.

Thank you for joining me. And thank you for waiting for me! Holy hell!

Two weeks of bad luck and the inability to record new shows where we had to air re-runs–which, admittedly, were some kickass classic Hard, Heavy & Hair Shows.

First we had technical difficulties on the order of an electrical fire in the walls. We upgraded the studio a couple of weeks ago, new sound proofing, all brand new equipment, [Clip – Ving Rhames from Mission Impossible 1 talking about x86 Risc processor, etc.] . So, we upgrade all the studio computers, the music library server rack, recording equipment, everything. I even got a new, larger mini-fridge and mini-freezer for my bourbon. [Clip – Warrant – The Power “Hey, yo! I’m ready! I know I’ve got the power… tonight!”] But then all that new, more powerful equipment needed more electricity [Clip – Doc Brown “1.21 gigawatts!” from Back to the Future] and it overloaded some of the wiring [Clip – Christopher Titus – Bzzzt! Bet you won’t do that again. Knocked your ass back about 8 feet.” from Normal Rockwell is Bleeding] . Yeah, we’re lucky no one was hurt. There was an electrical fire in the wall, so we had to put that out, and shut down everything until an electrician was able to rewire the entire building floor with wiring that can handle more amps.

THEN, last week, we’re back in business. I’ve got a playlist. I’ve got a Cover Song of the Week and all the attendant clues–a KILLER Cover Song of the Week, I might add–and I’m amped up because I haven’t been on the air for more than a week. [Clip – Back in Black chorus]

Then, out of nowhere the night before we record the show… Well, I’m out riding my Softail, enjoying the full moon and the wind in my face, and some… grrr person I can’t characterize the way I want to on the air because it could come up in court… So this… pulls out right in front of me and cuts me off. I yank the handlebars to the left and throttle up, but I wasn’t going fast enough for a hard turn like that, and the rear tire loses traction and… Down I go.

The next day, I was in no shape to record the show. I could barely speak from the injury. I was hopped up on heavy-duty painkillers–the kind even I won’t drink while on–and my face looked like Deadpool on a bad day [Clip – TJ “your face looks like the inside of other people’s assholes” etc. from Deadpool 1]. Yeah, not even Vanessa would want to look at me. I’m still [Clip – another Deadpool clip], but healing. More importantly, my mouth is back together, and I can talk. Obviously.

So, NOW, [clip – Skid Row “Ladies and gentlemen, members of the jury, all rise”] [Clip – Def Leppard “Stage Fright” ” welcome to my show, we’ve got the whole damn night to go”] here’s the show I’ve been trying to do for two weeks! Thank you all for your patience, for listening to the two Classic Hard, Heavy & Hair re-airings, and for coming back this week.

And without further comment, I really am Back in Black on the show for and about bad boys. This AC/DC.

—————————————-
AC/DC – Back in Black
Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle
—————————————-

“Welcome to the Jungle” from one of the baddest bad boy bands of the 80s and early 90s. A band you’ll hear from again later in a surprising way.

More badass Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair hits and deep cuts, plus something new, coming right up.

From ordering condoms by the case to innovating an on-stage computer system that let the four band members select girls from the audience they wanted and have backstage passes delivered to them automatically, Poison has always been one of the pinnacle bad boy bands. And they tell you that themselves in this deep cut from their 1986 debut album, Look What the Cat Dragged In. This is “#1 Bad Boy” followed by the REAL number 1 bad boy Rock band of any of the last four decades.

—————————————-
Poison – #1 Bad Boy
Mötley Crüe – Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)
—————————————-

Girl, don’t go away mad. Just go away. How many of us have can honestly say we haven’t said–or at least thought–that. Yeah, uh, that’s really what I was thinking, Angela.

Speaking of wanting something new…

Do you remember My Darkest Days? Their best known song was “Porn Star Dancing,” which is a modern classic. Frontman Matt Walst left My Darkest Days to front his brother’s band, Three Days Grace, who, coincidentally, have a new song coming up later on the show. While a couple of the other members, including keyboardist, rhythm guitarist, and backing vocalist Reid Henry started up Deadset Society. Like My Darkest Days, Deadset Society is on hiatus, which begat Tense Machine. But, Reid Henry hasn’t been idle. He’s about to put out a solo album, and this next track is the first single from it. I think you’ll like it. This is “Monster” by Reid Henry.

—————————————-
Reid Henry – Monster
Five Finger Death Punch – Bad Company
—————————————-

5FDP and their rendition of “Bad Company” by Paul Rodger’s and the original Bad Company.

Skid Row, Van Halen, Ratt, and Hinder are next. As is your first Cover Song of the Week clue.

We’re talking bad boys on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show this week, but not all levels of bad turn out good. This is Skid Row.

—————————————-
Skid Row – 18 and Life
Ratt – Lovin’ You’s a Dirty Job
—————————————-

Ratt, “Lovin’ You’s a Dirty Job” following “18 and Life” from Skid Row.

Your first Cover Song of the Week clue is right after Hinder, “All American Nightmare.”

—————————————-
Hinder – All American Nightmare
—————————————-

Ready for your first Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week original comes from an album that was originally titled _Lies! The Sex, The Drugs, The Violence, The Shocking Truth_, but Geffen Records thought the name was too long, so the band shortened it.

More and easier clues later. Right now, it’s Van Halen with a universal truth.

—————————————-
Van Halen – Everybody Wants Some!!
Van Halen – Eruption
—————————————-

Holy crap! I’ve got a new Adelitas Way song for you that isn’t a cover song just minutes away!

Welcome back. I’m Pariah Burke.

You may have heard some background noise while I’ve been talking in the previous segments. Long-time listeners know it’s not unusual for me to have a visiting pussy or two in the studio–hell, it’s pretty damn common–but this week, my studio guest is a different kind. It’s a literal pussy… cat.

Can you say hi, Nyx?

With my motorcycle accident last week, the studio fire and being shut down until the entire floor was rewired the week before, it’s been a rough couple of weeks. A good friend of mine thought a kitten would cheer me up, so she let me cat-sit her eight-week-old kitten. Her name is Nyx, Goddess of the Night, which fits this tiny, but energetic, all-black kitten who is currently climbing up on my shoulder… and trying to reach the mic.

Tiny Nyx is my co-host for this show.

What do you say, Nyx? Shall we play something “Naughty, Naughty” for the all the boys and girls listening at home, at work, and in their cars? Yeah? Okay. Let’s do it. Nyx says this “Danger Danger” followed by Lita Ford on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Danger Danger – Naughty Naughty
Lita Ford – Bad Boy
—————————————-

Lita Ford and “Bad Boy” from her 1990 Stilleto LP.

Ready for a minor miracle in music? How about a new track from Adelitas Way that isn’t a cover song?

—————————————-
Adelitas Way – Shine On
KISS – Uh! All Night
—————————————-

Kiss “Uh! All Night” following the first non-cover song from Adelitas Way in two years, “Shine On.”

How about your second Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week itself is a posthumous release by a musician we lost more than three years ago to suicide. His was a unique voice, which he shared with us in life as the lead singer for Temple of the Dog and Audioslave, but most famously, for Soundgarden. Now, he graces us with a tender Cover Song of the Week from beyond the grave.

Seriously. You don’t want to miss this Cover Song of the Week. It’s truly something special, something you’re going to want to focus on. So, plan on leaning back alone in your living room, or pulling your car over to the side of the road, in the last half-hour of the show, which is just around the corner.

We’ll be right back.

I’m Pariah Burke. This is Hard, Heavy & Hair 265, the Bad Boys show, and we can all–man, woman, or non-binary–relate to this next song by the Sleeze Beez.

—————————————-
Sleeze Beez – When the Brains Go to the Balls
Kix – Dirty Boys
Shaman’s Harvest – Dangerous
—————————————-

I’m the host of this show, and that makes me dangerous. That was Shaman’s Harvest following “Dirty Boys” by Kix and the Sleeze Beez with “When the Brains Go to the Balls.”

A double-shot of new songs is next.

I’ve got your third and final Cover Song of the Week clue for you very shortly. First, Warrant is going to take us to where the down boys go, then I’m going to hit you with a double-shot of new music.

—————————————-
Warrant – Down Boys
Rev Theory – Remember Me
Three Days Grace – Somebody That I Used to Know
—————————————-

That was “Somebody That I Used to Know,” the latest from Three Days Grace, a cover of Gotye’s [pro. GOT-ee-ay] 2011 song featuring Kimbra. Earlier in the show I played you a new song from Reid Henry, who was in My Darkest Days with Three Days Grace frontman Matt Walst. Before that was another new track from Rev Theory. The title was “Remember Me,” a new song I’m sure we’ll all remember.

Ready for your final Cover Song of the Week clue?

The Cover Song of the Week original was a musical van garde for Hard Rock in the late 80s. It featured no drums at all–though the band’s drummer plays his kit during live performances–three acoustic guitars, iconic whistling everyone recognizes, and one of the most infamously bad boy bands being genuinely romantic and emotionally vulnerable at a time when it was difficult for most Hard Rock and Metal bands to even sound sincere on power ballads.

Think about it. The Cover Song of the Week is right after Brian Howe-era Bad Company. From 1990, this is “Boys Cry Tough.”

—————————————-
Bad Company – Boys Cry Tough
—————————————-

Again, this week’s Cover Song of the Week is something genuinely special. You don’t want to miss it. It’s next, right after these brief messages that allow me to buy booze for me and kitten food for my tiny little co-host this week, Nyx… Who has, despite the loud music, fallen asleep in my lap. This tiny, little, black kitten. We’ll be right back.

[COW]

It can be a little spooky to hear new music from artists who have passed away. In the last year, I’ve played a couple of tracks by Grey Daze, old recordings finished and mastered recently from a pre-Linkin Park band Chester Bennington fronted. And now, we have more musical legacy from another voice the world just a few weeks before.

In May of 2017, Chris Cornell, singer and rhythm guitarist for Soundgarden and Audioslave, took his own life. His suicide greatly influenced his dear friend, the aforementioned Chester Bennington. Chester would take his life two months later, on what would have been Chris Cornell’s 53rd birthday.

That birthday was July 20th. On July 20th of this year, Chris’s daughter, Lily Cornell Silver, launched an interview series on IGTV (Instagram TV, if you’re not social media hip). The series aims to bring light to mental illness such as that her father suffered. The same day, Chris’s family released this week’s Cover Song of the Week, something Chris had recorded but never released. I’ve been trying to play it since the day it was released, but… Well, I told you about the fire and my accident. There’s no way I’m letting this song go without airing it.

Ladies and gentlemen. I invite you to pull over to the side of the road. To put down the dishes, laptop, or game controller. To sit back, close your eyes, and witness four minutes and thirteen seconds of something truly special, something worthy of your time.

Covering a Guns N’ Roses classic, a song that was slated for inclusion on the album titled _Lies! The Sex, The Drugs, The Violence, The Shocking Truth_, but which Geffen Records shortened to be simply titled _G N R Lies_, this is Chris Cornell singing “Patience,” followed by the Guns N’ Roses original.

—————————————-
Chris Cornell – Patience
Guns N’ Roses – Patience
—————————————-

“Patience,” by Guns N’ Roses, following the new, previously unreleased cover by the late, great Chris Cornell. That was the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week.

If you missed any part of this show, you can stream it again on-demand 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, from PariahRocks.com, that’s P-A-R-I-A-H-R-O-C-K-S-dot com.

Connect with me on Twitter and Instagram @PariahRocks and on Facebook At-Pariah-Rocks-You, which I hope you will give a Like.

And, as a little PSA, with very personal meaning to me, as you may have heard earlier in this show and at the top of last week’s show: Please, please, PLEASE look for motorcyclists on the roads. We’re out there. We’re sometimes hard to see from your car or truck mirrors. And we don’t have the same protection or ability to turn and to stop as cars and trucks. My busted up face attests to that. So, please, look for us. Listen for us.

My name is Pariah Burke, I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny host and producer. Thank you for joining me for this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

I’ll see you back here next week on this station for another all new Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. I’m Pariah Burke. Thank you for tuning in. Jon Bon Jovi is going to close out this “Bad Boys” themed episode of Hard, Heavy & Hair with “Blaze of Glory.”
