Transcript of the Show

[INTRO]

Recent events in my city and across the U.S. prevented me from producing the show I wanted to this week. Next week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair will include a hair-filled tribute the best of 1990! Don’t miss it! In the meantime, please enjoy this rerun of a Hard, Heavy & Hair Show from September 2019.

Be safe, my friends.

—————————————-
Whitesnake – Hey You (You Make Me Rock)
—————————————-

From the fantastic 2019 Flesh & Blood album, that was Whitesnake with “Hey You (You Make Me Rock)”

Welcome to the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, your weekly dose of Hard Rock, Metal, and Hair Bands from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 20-teens, including the latest new releases, your old favorites, and deep cuts and rare hair that slipped through the cracks of mainstream radio.

My name is Pariah Burke, and I’m your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny hedonist host on this Hard, Heavy, and Hairy journey.

Thank you for joining me.

I want to welcome the newest stations to the show family.

First, Hard, Heavy & Hair is now rocking your road rage home from work Wednesday’s in drive time on Fusion109 in British Columbia.

And I’m also shaking the cradle of civilization and banging godheads all the way up on Mount Olympus via Rock Flame Radio broadcasting all over Greece and the world from the City of Hermes in Greece.

Let’s keep the feel good rolling with Motley Crue.

—————————————-
Mötley Crüe – Dr. Feelgood
BulletBoys – Smooth Up In Ya
—————————————-

“Smooth Up In Ya” from BulletBoys following the unmistakable “Dr Feelgood” from Motley Crue.

In just a moment I’ll have for you that band named after a real life person who likes to kick men in the gonads, your first Cover Song of the Week clue, and more riffs you can role into a giant doobie.

Landing on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart at 39 this week, this is Halestorm with “Black Vultures” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Halestorm – Black Vultures [Single Version] Atreyu – The Time Is Now
—————————————-

So what band took its name from a real ballbuster with a roshambo fetish? Formed in Atlanta in 2013, Kickin Valentina took its name from a European fetish porn star by the name of Carmen Valentina. Miss Valentina–or is that Mistress Valentina? Whatever her title, she’s famous for a fetish called ball busting wherein men ask her to kick them in the nuts, usually pretty hard.

[FX “ooph”]

The band liked that, so they named themselves Kickin’ Valentina–an adjective describing Valentina, not a verb talking about an action taken against Valentina, as many thought. Heber Pampillion and the guys don’t run around kicking every Valentina they meat.

Anyway, here they with “Eyes” from 2017, back when Joe Edwards was still fronting the band.

AC/DC – Thunderstruck
—————————————-

“Thunderstruck” by AC/DC.

30 year-old Skid Row is up right after your first Cover Song of the Week clue

The first clue is always the hardest, so let’s start with a description of the band doing the cover.

They’re a Modern Alternative Hard Rock band from the US driven, they say, to “Flood our World with Hope-Driven Fearless Rock”. The band’s name is a Hebrew word that means “wellspring,” which informs their style of music–faith-based lyrics and a mended-heart filled message pulling in core elements of grinding guitars, pulsing bass, pounding drums, layered electronica sounds, and soaring vocals.

That’s the band performing the Cover Song of the Week.

More and easier clues later.

From their 1989 self-titled debut album, which turned 30 years old this Fall, this is deep cut “Here I Am” by Skid Row.

—————————————-
Skid Row – Here I Am
—————————————-

After the short break it’s five artists on tour together. We’ll be right back.

When tickets went on sale for the Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, Chevelle, Dorothy, and Diamante tour, I immediately bought front row tickets. I didn’t wait for a press pass. I just bought a pair of tickets. I don’t even know who I’m taking yet. I might slip a ticket into the g-string of a stripper I want to bang.

Long time listeners of the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show know that I’ve been a big fan of Diamante since before anyone else played her music. I’ve been a fan of Dorothy’s almost as long. Having seen Dorothy live once already this year, I wasn’t passing up a chance to see her again when she came to town with the other bands. I’m looking forward to seeing Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, and Three Days Grace, but it’s really Diamante and Dorothy I paid to see.

And I will be seeing them, Saturday, September 21st, just outside Portland in Ridgefield, Washington. In honor of that show with three co-headliners and two bad ass, hard rocking women opening, I thought I’d play for you a song from each of the five artists.

Let’s start with Chevelle. This is “Joyride (Omen)” on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Chevelle – Joyride (Omen)
Dorothy – Down To The Bottom
Three Days Grace – Fallen Angel
—————————————-

“Fallen Angel” from Three Days Grace following Dorothy’s “Down to the Bottom,” which is a standalone single not released on either of Dorothy’s albums so far.

Also opening for the triple-co-headlining tour with Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, and Three Days Grace, is blue-haired Metal siren Diamante. Here she is with her cover of Lower Than Atlantis’s “Had Enough.” I’m Pariah Burke.

—————————————-
Diamante – Had Enough
Breaking Benjamin – I Will Not Bow
—————————————-

And finally, the headliner of the 5-artist tour we just sampled, Breaking Benjamin with their biggest hit, “I Will Not Bow.”

Coming up in the next hour of the show is the Cover Song of the Week, brand new Defiants, Green Jello, and so much hair it will clog your drain just to listen to! I’m Pariah Burke, and Hard, Heavy & Hair will be right back.

Welcome back. Let’s “Rocket” with Def Leppard before I get you your next Cover Song of the Week clue.

—————————————-
Def Leppard – Rocket (Single Version)
—————————————-

Here’s your second of three Cover Song of the Week clues.

The Cover Song of the Week was written and originally released by… Well, by a group so famous it’s difficult to find any hints that don’t make it glaringly obvious. Let’s try this. The original recording artist is a quartet with distinctive personas–a dreamer, a knight, a quiet one, and an all star. Let me repeat that. The Cover Song of the Week is a cover of a song originally by a four-piece band featuring a dreamer, a knight, a quiet one, and an all star.

Ponder that while Volbeat, now down to number 2 on the charts, sings to us about “Last Day Under The Sun” before brand new The Defiants exclusively airing on Hard, Heavy & Hair.

—————————————-
Volbeat – Last Day Under The Sun
Rev Theory – Lessons
—————————————-

That was “Lesson” from Rev Theory.

Exclusively on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show, this is “Standing on the Edge” from the Defiants new LP, Zokusho. “Standing on the Edge” is one of my favorite tracks from the new album, and it hasn’t been released as a single, making Hard, Heavy & Hair the first to air it. This is the Defiants.

—————————————-
The Defiants – Standing On The Edge
—————————————-

Brand new The Defiants premiered exclusively on the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show with me, Pariah Burke. If you liked that track, pick up Zokusho, the Defiants second album, released just last week. The name of the record is a Japanese word meaning “next chapter,” which is fitting for the Defiants next album.

More Hard rock, more Metal, more Hair, and more EVERYTHING coming up right after this.

Let’s riff it up with Guns N Roses and then the Scorpions. Let’s pay a visit to “Mr. Brownstone” before we get into the “Rhythm of Love.”

—————————————-
Guns N’ Roses – Mr. Brownstone
Scorpions – Rhythm of Love
—————————————-

“Rhythm of Love” from the Scorpions.

These next guys are a new Melodic Hard Rock band from Leyland, England with catchy hook lines. This is Gone Savage with their first single “Love Caught Me Out.” See what you think.

—————————————-
Gone Savage – Love Caught Me Out
—————————————-

What do you think of Gone Savage? Want to hear more? Hit the show notes on PariahRocks.com. I’ve linked to Gone Savage’s Facebook fan page.

We’re getting close to the Cover Song of the Week. That means I need to get you another clue. And I will, after Bon Jovi and Warrant. This is “Never Say Goodbye.”

—————————————-
Bon Jovi – Never Say Goodbye
Warrant – 32 Pennies
—————————————-

“32 Pennies,” track 1, side 1 from Warrant’s 1989 debut album, Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich. Heh. I can’t even just SAY the title of the album. It always comes out the way it’s sung in the title song–track 6.

[Clip – Warrant – DRFSR]

“32 Pennies” opened the album, and it just takes me back to the cruising with the top down on spring evenings.

You might be surprised to know that Jani and Warrant didn’t write “32 Pennies.” Gerard Borg, Phillip Vella, and Thomas G-Son wrote that song. Including the chorus line “thirty-two pennies in a record jar”.

Wait a minute. What the hell is a “record jar”? Have you always wondered about that? A lot of people have, but Jani doesn’t sing “record jar.” He rolls his R and doesn’t enunciate the word too well, but what he’s actually saying is “32 pennies in a Ragu jar,” revealing Warrant’s favorite brand of spaghetti sauce. Sorry Prego.

Disturbed is next, after your final Cover Song of the Week clue.

If you haven’t guessed by now, the Cover Song of the Week is a Beatles song, though in the original release by the Fab Four, the Beatles DON’T play any instruments. All the music is played on string instruments by hired session musicians. It’s a sad song about loneliness offset with sometimes cheerful violins, violas, and cellos. It’s also former President Bill Clinton’s favorite Beatles song.

What song is that? It’s the Cover Song of the Week in a Harder and Heavier rendition than the Beatles’ original.

This is Disturbed with “Stricken” to help you think.

—————————————-
Disturbed – Stricken
—————————————-

We’ll be right back with the Cover Song of the Week, Green Jello, and a hot new band you need to hear, Hell’s Addiction.

[COW]

I’ve already told you that the Cover Song of the Week was written and originally recorded by the Beatles, a quartet with distinctive personas–the dreamer, the knight, the quiet one, and the all-star. But do you know which Beatles song is it is that doesn’t have a single one of them playing an instrument? Instead, Paul and George vocally harmonize while four violins, two violas, and two cellos perform a score composed by George Martin.

The sad, lonely Beatle’s song is covered this week by a US Alt Hard Rock band whose name is the Hebrew word for wellspring. With faith-based lyrics and a mended-heart filled message, Mawcore is the perfect band to try to bring hope to the hopeless loneliness of “Eleanor Rigby.”

Here they are, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week, Mawcore doing “Eleanor Rigby,” followed immediately by the timeless Beatles’ original.

—————————————-
Mawcore – Eleanor Rigby
The Beatles – Eleanor Rigby
—————————————-

That was “Eleanor Rigby”, the Hard, Heavy & Hair Cover Song of the Week. That was the original version by the Beatles, of course, following the cover by Mawcore.

Let’s move away from the heavy loneliness of “Eleanor Rigby” and toward some heavy silliness with Green Jello–and, yes, I said Green Jell-OH, not Green Jelly, ’cause I have the ORIGINAL CD before Kraft Foods started huffing and puffing and blowing in houses.

—————————————-
Green Jellö – Three Little Pigs
—————————————-

“Three Little Pigs” by Green Jelly, formerly Green Jello. Green, everyone knows, is the color of Jello that makes you horny. Not that I need jello for that.

I’m Pariah Burke, your hard talking, heavy drinking, hairball of a horny host and producer. Thank you for joining me for this week’s Hard, Heavy & Hair Show.

If you missed any part of the show, you can stream it again on-demand 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, from PariahRocks.com, that’s P-A-R-I-A-H-R-O-C-K-S-dot com.

We’re counting down to the start of the official Hard, Heavy & Hair Halloween season. When will it jump out and surprise you? Whether that’s next week or not, you’re not going to want to miss the Hard, Heavy & Hair Show over the next few weeks.

Hailed as the bastard child of an illicit three-way between Skid Row, early-Guns N’ Roses, and AC/DC, another recent discovery of mine is UK Sleaze Metal band Hell’s Addiction. Their song “Free Your Mind” is going to play us out.

I’ll see you back here on this station for another all new Hard, Heavy & Hair Show. I’m Pariah Burke. Thank you for tuning in.
